Juan Osito. Patrón y curso básico de muñeco a crochet (amigurumi)

{English below}

Hola!

3v: (1 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [18].
4v: (2 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [24].
5v: (3 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [30].
6v: (4 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [36].
7v: (5 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [42].
8v: (6 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [48].
9v-18v: 1 mp en cada uno de los 48 mp [48].
19v: (4 mp, 1 dism) repitan 8 veces [40].
20v: (3 mp, 1 dism) repitan 8 veces [32].
24v: (2 mp, 1 aum) repitan 6 veces [24].
25v: (2 mp, 1 aum) repitan 8 veces [32].
26v-32v: 1 mp en cada uno de los 32 mp [32].
Cambien a color marrón.

Hi! I’m back! And this time no more than a year has passed! And I also brought gifts! And I put aside the idea of writing a bunch about the lack of respect and work ethic of many people who share this trade.

You're happy I know...especially about the part about not having to read my complaints, hahaha.

Anyway... I've been wanting to make some videos for years, to facilitate the access to the way in which I design and crochet my toys. It's definitely not better than others (and I hope it's not worse either), but it's the way my characters are born.

I am self-taught (yes, I always repeat the same thing, sorry). There were no video tutorials to make toys or Instagram, and Facebook was only used to bother the family members with boring photos…so we all used to live happily between Blogspot, WordPress, Flickr and Tumblr…obviously I'm a few years old.

So, between being self-taught and getting older, I have a lot of tricks that don't necessarily have a practical sense, and I'm not worried about topics that for many are almost a search for the holy grail of perfection in crochet techniques. And although being a kind of crochet Indiana Jones must be an extremely entertaining activity, it’s not within my personal goals. I don't care too much about issues like the little step that is generated when we make color changes, that one leg is two millimeters larger than the other or that the decreases are noticeable ... in fact, I really like when the decreases are noticeable (when they look even and pretty, logically).

What happens to me with these details, and this is super personal, is that what for many are mistakes that need to be solved, for me they are signs of the handmade piece, the characteristics of crochet, something like appreciating the assemblies of a wooden piece of furniture, or the fingerprints on a piece of ceramic.

But again, it's personal taste. If you can't sleep thinking about those details and you need to do put some makeup on them, there are thousands of videos and tutorials explaining how to do it. The only thing I want to clarify is that I'm not going to explain them because I would be lying to you or trying to explain something that I really don't use, and I don't have enough practice to dare to teach you.

So, officially, I present to you Juan Little Bear, who is like the little version of Hans Bear. A relatively simple pattern, but which, at the same time, covers an interesting number of techniques that I think can be useful tools to clear doubts to embark with more confidence when crocheting my designs. In other words, a way of showing you the reason for my tricks and many of my decisions when thinking about a character.

And why a bear?

First, because I believe that few objects are more emblematic than a teddy bear. Although now I am curious to find the reason -somewhat twisted- and the story behind why we decided to give our children the tender and miniature version of an animal that could destroy us in less than a minute... but hey, it goes without saying that humanity has a very particular sense of humor when it comes to educating its offspring (oh, the “classic” children's stories… the horror).

On the other hand, the first time I uploaded a free pattern to this blog, on July 20, 2009, it was a bear. So it could also be read as an update/improvement of that character… which, oh! please don't even try to do it because it's a disaster, hahaha. My first own character that wasn't a cactus or a mushroom (it was the coolest thing at that time), first written pattern… a real disaster, but a disaster with love. So perhaps looking at it from the full glass side, it's a prime example of what time and practice can do for a craft.

Well, that’s it. I will stop talking (for now) and I leave the pattern below.

(No step by step pictures because I just realized that I forgot to take them when I was recording because I was too nervous and now I'm not going to make another teddy bear).

Oh, and this goes in capital letters, just in case ;)

THE PATTERN IS FREE, BUT IT HAS AN AUTHOR (WHO SUBSCRIBE), FOR WHICH THE COPYRIGHT OVER IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS WITH THE ANY OTHER PATTERN OR BOOK.

Thank you so much!!!

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times [30]

Rnd 9-18: sc in all 48 st [48]
Rnd 19: (sc in next 4 st, dec) repeat 8 times [40]
Rnd 20: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 8 times [32]
Sew the snout between rounds 14 and 18. The snout must be placed on the opposite side of the start of the round. Stuff the snout with fiberfill before closing the seam. Insert the safety eyes between rounds 14 and 15, about 3 stitches away from the snout. Embroider the cheeks with pastel pink yarn.
Rnd 21: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 8 times [24]
Rnd 22: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 6 times [18]
Rnd 23: sc in all 18 st [18]
Stuff the head firmly. Continue in a stripe pattern, changing color every round, alternating between white and blue.
Rnd 24: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times [24]
Rnd 25: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 8 times [32]
Rnd 26-32: sc in all 32 st [32]
Change to brown yarn.
Rnd 33: BLO sc in all 32 st [32]
Rnd 34-38: sc in all 32 st [32]
Do not fasten off.

THE LEGS
To make the legs, divide the work identifying 4 stitches for the front central space between the legs, 4 stitches for the back and 12 stitches for each leg (you may find it useful to use stitch markers). If the legs don't line up nicely with the head, crochet a few more sc on the body or undo them. Join the last stitch for the leg on the back side to the front side, working a single crochet stitch (this sc will be the first stitch of the leg). Now the stitches of the first leg are joined in the round. Continue working the first leg:
Rnd 39-53: sc in all 12 st [12]
Stuff the body and leg firmly.
Rnd 54: dec 6 times [6]
Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loop of each remaining stitch and pull tight to close. Weave in the yarn end.

Second leg
Rejoin brown yarn in the fifth unworked stitch at the back of round 38. This is where we start the first stitch of the second leg. Leave a long starting yarn tail.
Rnd 39: sc in all 12 st. When you reach the 12th st of the leg, sc in first stitch to join the round.
Rnd 40-54: repeat the pattern for the first leg.
Stuff the second leg and add more stuffing to the body if needed. Using a tapestry needle, sew the 4 stitches between the legs closed.

ARMS (make 2, start in brown)
Rnd 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring [8]
Rnd 2-13: sc in all 8 st [8]
Continue in a stripe pattern, changing color every round, alternating between white and blue.
Rnd 14-15: sc in all 8 st [8]
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff with fiberfill. Sew the arms to both sides between rounds 25 and 26.

EARS (make 2, in brown)
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: inc in all 6 st [12]
Rnd 3-5: sc in all 12 st [12]
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Don’t need to stuff. Flatten the ears and sew them om top of the head, between rounds 4 and 8, approx.

TAIL (in brown)
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: sc in all 6 st [6].
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff. Sew the tail to the back, centered over rounds 32 and 35.
